Don't listen to the haters

If you are a fan of the first 2 Max Payne games you will probably love this game. While the gameplay is almost identical to Max Payne 2, Rockstar put a lot of effort into the story, writing, graphics, character animations and weapon effects and physics. Don't listen to the 13 yr. old, ADHD CoD crowd that can't be bothered to sit still for 5 minutes and have a story told to them. The story is great and the writing the amazing. Whoever wrote the script for this game deserves the all praise in the world. Max hasn't lost his penchant for waxing poetic and making grim observations after all these years. Gone are the graphic novel-like panels that told the story in the first two games. The story is now told through cutscenes that blend effortlessly into the gameplay. The cutscenes also mask the game's long loading times. So if you're one of fidgety types I mentioned earlier, or you simply don't have much time on your hands for gaming, the single player story might not be your cup of tea. If you've never played a Max Payne game before, the gameplay could best be described as almost like Uncharted 3, but much more violent and with less intuitive controls. But that's where the comparisons to Uncharted 3 stop. Max Payne 3 is a very gritty, VERY ADULT game with scenes of extreme violence and almost non-stop swearing in both English and Portuguese. If I have one gripe about this game, it's the controls. The default control setting is pretty bad and I just couldn't get used to it. Every action feels like its been assigned to the wrong button and it's very awkward. PROTIP: Switch to Control Layout 4 for a much more enjoyable experience;) I've only played a little bit of the multiplayer so far, but what I did play was pretty fun. Not on par with the powerhouse online games (MW3, BF3), but still fun. Oh, and if you're an achievement/trophy chaser, GOOD LUCK with this game. Some of the trophy requirements border on insanity and will need expert skill and lots of time to get them.
