Marvel:Ultimate Alliance is basically x-men legends 3, but that's not a bad thing. The fact that you can play a variety of marvel heroes is great. I thought the artwork is much better here as the developers have done away with the cartoony look of the legends games (the big hands, etc).
I really didn't like the fact that they took away a lot of our customization options. We can't put points into body, focus, and strike like we did in XML and we also can only wear one piece of gear, as opposed to 3 in XML. They sort of make up for this by giving us alternate outfits for the heroes as the game progress. Each costume has different upgrades which you can purchase to make the player more powerful. Plus, it's a blast to web-swing as Spider-man in the Scarlet Spider costume.
The gameplay is good and tight, and there were very few drops in framerate when the action got really frantic. The action is the same that we've come to love in XML, with endless waves of enemies coming at us and us wiping them out.
The game takes about 20 hours to finish but you get a lot of extra playing time out of it because of a great addition to the series - multiple endings. There're choices you have to make throughout the game that effect the end and you get a lot of replay value by playing the game again to see the other endings.
Pick this game up if you're looking for a fun action-RPG or if you're looking for an opportunity to finally swing Thor's hammer, fling Captain America's shield, or whip Ghost Rider's chain.
