Very Good

Fun, but short

As for the game play, this is a very fun and interactive game. The boards are creative and most of the mini-games are pretty entertaining. The only problem I noticed was the lack of variety in going solo. You can easy play everything in the game within a few days making a good but relatively short experience.

I liked the fact that they added some variety to the game. They change the objective of the game from just getting stars to being the last to make up the mountain, or have the most houses on the block etc.

I only had to play the first stage to know this Mario Party game was not fun. All I had to do was roll a high number to win the game. But I didn't. Then CPU Mario came up, rolled the high number and won the game with me right behind him. I have never seen a game depend on luck this badly.
I have played Mario Party 4 through 9 and DS. All of these games follow the same concept of getting the most stars (mini-stars for 9, but it's still a fun game). This concept was fun and was amazing they were able to bring it from the console to the handheld and make it play just like the console games.
Mario Party: Island Tour entirely disregards the concept of stars and just makes it a race to the end with stars not existing in the game at all—something that no Mario Party game has ever done. Couple that with games being short compared to regular MP games and some of the stages not available because they require 3 human players to work and this does not feel like a Mario Party game anymore and is certainly not worth the $40 price being asked for it.

I was really excited to have a Mario Party game for 3DS that I could play with all my friends because of Download Play. But this is not what Mario Party is about.
Get Mario Party DS instead for a more authentic Mario Party experience and one that friends can play together on a long car trip.
