I seriously enjoyed this game. I order this for my younger brother as a surprise and he loved every second of it and so did I. The 'captian' role with the vehicle where nicely done and the boss battles as final mini games were an excellent additional feature. I highly reccomend this game to anyone looking to spend family time with younger siblings or act like kids with others of an older group.
If you've ever played any of the past Mario Party games, and expecting this one to be similar. Well, this game is already not a good choice for you. I guess Nintendo wanted to change things around a bit, but were the changes for the better or for the worst?
Instead of the usual "4-people-duke-it out" Kind of style, you are now traveling in a vehicle WITH your opponents. I honestly don't like that aspect. What's the point on competing with each other if you're all literally working together? Makes no sense to me.
There's no coins, power stars or items. Instead, you have these things called "Stars", and "Zstars." Now, the "Stars" are little silver stars that you collect throughout the game. "Zstars" however are the bad purple stars that take away your silver stars.
Though, one of the new things that was added to this game that I like is the boss battles. In the story mode (and yes, there's a story mode) Bowser Jr. and Bowser will send these awesome boss guys that you have to defeat. That, I found really cool. I hope the future Mario Party's will expand on the boss battle concept.
The mini-games are okay. There's a few decent ones here there. But, like what someone else said, most of the mini-games are by chance. Such as "picking up a card that's higher than your opponents card." Just for an example.
Like I mentioned before, Mario Party 9 has a story mode....just what EVERYONE wants in a party game, right? xD
It's basically about Bowser stealing all the Stars, and you have to take them back, basically. I find the story line pretty pathetic. I mean, yeah, it IS just a party game, with story lines being primarily secondary things, BUT! If you're going to have a story mode, at least make it decent. Not make it look like it was thrown together at the last second.
So, I think Nintendo shouldn't of made so many changes, most of the changes were bad ones. They should of just kept it the same. Like the old saying goes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
