This entry into the Mario Party series is I think the most innovative! They have redone the standard formula and made it more cooperative focused which is fun and the games run a little faster than they used to with some really fun mini games thrown in.
My girlfriend and I have played all the unlocked maps and a lot of the mini games. The boards are really cool and the gameplay is altered with all players moving as one instead of independent.
Boss battles are thrown in now which is very cool, they are fun and simple.
But still the game is pretty short and the winner is really a lot of luck! But it is fun with friends! I really love Mario Party!
First off I'd like to say I really enjoyed this title. Mario party 8 was kind of a disapointment for me, it's a wonderful game, just not a very good mario party game.
Nintendo really changed the mario party formula. It's almost a completley new game, but Nintendo still managed to make the game have that mario party feel, (hence the reveiw title). I swear the comp. players cheat so much!
The story is Bowser steals all the mini-stars. You go around collecting them back. Occasionally there'll be a boss battle. Some of the new things about Mario Party 9 is the dice only goes to 6, All of the players travel in one car, and one of the comps is playing for bowser. At the end of each round the player who collects the most mini stars is the superstar. If that superstar happens to be playing for bowser we all DIE... Er... Lose.
Overall this is a great game worth buying
P.S. Try to find Luigi on the coverart of the game.

I like the new concept, and if you like the old concept, you can play Mario Parties 1-8, and that's fine by me, but honestly, it's good to whip up a fresh new way to play. While this game should have a "Traditional" game mode, hey, it's all good.
