I was very excited to finally be able to try this game, having not been able to pick up a Mario Kart game since my N64 died. And what I got was absolute garbage. I don't know if the game is designed with the steering wheel in mind, but I know that without it, the carts/bikes are beyond frustrating to handle, and too often I found myself zigzagging like crazy in a desperate attempt to avoid falling off of the track. It makes me really miss the analog stick. Beyond the lackluster controls you have the amazing "luck" the computer drivers have. Shells hit you at just the right moment to stop you mid-jump over an off-track fall, or inches from the finish line. The game will punish you for doing well. Needless to say, it's far from fun.
I'm probably going to return this immediately. This game had the poorest controls for a racing game I have -ever- dealt with.
Maybe it's fun with human opponents, but against the PC, you have an unshakable target on your back, and nothing will hit you until it's just the right moment to screw you over.
if it aint broke don't fix it. that's the motto for Mario kart. lots of tracks to race on. they even revived some of the old n64 tracks and added them in the mix. lots of new tracks of corse. new items. that's all. same super fun game with new items. that's the winning formula.
