i am a huge fan of disgaea, and when i played this game, the battle system is alot different but it still has the same taste and artwork etc etc. instead of using square they used radius. i have to say it was very different, very funny as usual, but the only negative thing i have to say is that it was alot shorter then i expected. it felt like piece of the game was missing. overall it was a great game but i still like Disaea better
WHEW, this one came out of the gates FAST, it follows the NIS formula all the way to the dot (overlords, minions,fighting for dominance,love, all rapd in a tasty penguin burrito of humor). It did not dissapoint at all, but it did not greatly thrill either. This game departs from a main character you level up and buff into a mucho strong dude, and instead shifts it's focus on the production of created characters and building there stats. This leads to the game's focus being on stat building, and less on story. Now before i go any further, I would like to say that I am a person who prefers more story bits, and more options on getting a different ending (i.e. Disgaea). Makai Kingdom does not take this path, instead it gives you all the tools you need to make monstrous characters, and take on a numerous cast from the NIS universe instead. I felt as if the story was far too shallow, and much too brief. The story bits are far stretced between battles, and this makes me almost lose site of why I am performing the genocide of all who stand against me. However, just as you feel like you may start to get out of touch with the story, the game brings your back in, charges you up, and puts you back out in the field all ready to go. This game had a huge amount of potential, but I do not think it lived up to all of its potential, only most of it. The game has great access to uber weapons (if you have played Disgaea and Phantom Brave you know what i mean), great characters, hilarious lines, deep challenging worlds to conquer, and it even introduces Vehicles and facilities (i.e. castles) to the battle field. However, this does not make up for the fact of a light story. This game goes straight for the number crunchers, the guys who spend 1000 hours pumping up characters without ever touching the story. So Mr. Number cruncher this one is for you, and for those who aren't number crunchers this is still a great one, it just seems to miss a dimension youd expect along the way.
