Batter Up 'cause baseball season is back upon us and so is MLB 2K6 with a face lift on its franchise from last year. The presentation has improved with the addition of Steve Phisioc (Angels Announcer) and Genie Zelasco (Fox Sports) breaking down the match-up before each game. Back for another year of play-by-play are John Miller and Joe Morgan who do a great job as always. Other new features include “Big Game Moments” where they key in on the pitcher and runners on base with the camera before the pitch while the commentators build on the situation. In addition, the crowd plays a big part in cheering and chanting for the home team during key moments that build on driving your momentum. Graphically the game does show some wear. There is noticeable slow down in frame rate and as a whole it just appears grainy at times. Included with this title is the World Baseball Classic, so you can try to re-write the U.S. Team’s poor fate. All in all there’s not a whole lot to get excited about in this version from past versions. This year they have definitely gone back to the simulation style, although you can tweak the options to play a more arcade style game if that’s your thing. On the Xbox with EA out of the MLB game for a while I’d give it a try. If you own a PS2 try MLB 06: The Show, with live sports tickers, downloadable rosters, and instant messaging I would give it the edge over 2K6.
