I went into Mafia 2 expecting GTA in the gangster era. Which is a half truth. The combat is a pretty run of the mill shooter; I played on hard right away and only felt one part of the game was remotely difficult. The game is set in a 'sandbox style' and yet the game plays extremely linearly, with almost nothing to do in the city beside collect tons of meaningless wanted posters. The story was pretty mediocre, but the mood and the historical aspect of it was definitely the redeeming factor for this game that made it worthwhile. That and the characters are really likable, considering they are scumbag guns-for-hire.
