With all the hype about this year's Madden, I expected more. As far as the gameplay goes, I was very happy with it. There weren't too many glaring errors, and the commentary is much improved. The roster management left something to be desired. I like they got rid of the letter potential grades (that could not be modified) and moved to a new system. You can achieve goals and accumulate points that can be applied during the season to improve player attributes, but it is very time consuming and takes far too long to achieve any real progress. For example, to improve a rookie QB's accuracy by 1 point, you'd have to achieve goals within each game and the weekly practices for at least three weeks. In the mean time, you aren't improving anyone else. You can simulate the development, but that didn't really seem to help much. The CPU simply buys the cheap stuff like blocking ability for LBs, or Press coverage for OL. And I'm not sure why, but the actual interface was much less appealing. I enjoyed Madden 12's format much better. Plus this years version is so overwhelmingly biased toward online play, it's disappointing. I'm a huge fan of franchise and superstar mode. They are available in this game, but I had to look up where to find them. All in all, not very well planned in my opinion. However, at least the gameplay is great.
