First off, this game is not for anyone who just wants to jump in and have fun. I've been playing Madden since '95 and found this to be the most challenging one yet. I like the new Pro-Tak system. It's not perfect, but a step in the right direction. You can make tackles now that you were unable to do so before. And you can also break tackles and make huge plays. Excuse me if the sounds like a pitch, but you fight for every yard.
The running game is a lot harder. You can't just hold in the sprint button and try to hit a gap. But if you follow your blocks, find the open gap and use your sprint/moves at the right times it pays off.
To me the passing game seems about the same. Except that you have to step up in pocket. No more dropping back until someone is open and slinging the ball. The O-line forms a pocket making this more realistic.
The defense seems to be less forgiving on bad play calls. If you don't make the right calls you'll get beat time and time again. So like I said, this is not for people just wanting to jump in without a decent knowledge of the game. It seems EA geared this towards the Madden vets who wanted a challenge.
Yes the game is slower, which you can change that in the settings. But it seems more realistic. And with the accelerated clock feature you have to know what play you want and call it in a hurry or you'll end up with a delay of game.
I like the Wild Cat being in the game, but you can't put in a QB like Pat White to run it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I couldn't find how to sub him in.
All in all this is a pretty solid game. It's not perfect, but a step in the right direction. If you want something that is easy to pick up, stay away. But for everyone else looking to step up their game, then give it a try.
I gave it an 8 because like I said it's not perfect. It's my favorite Madden to date.
I enjoyed playing Madden 10 on the PS3. Graphics/animation were very clean and sharp, and the in-game experience was more realistic (except that the crowds don't leave if the game is a blowout, they just stick around. Come on EA! Get with it).
I still think, however, that this game overall has stagnated. I typically play the dynasty mode and sometimes a "superstar" mode that allows a player to move up through the ranks. I would like to see this portion be more realistic. I should be able to be as flamboyant as T.O. or reserve as I like, talking with the media, holding out during pre-season, or whatever. Let's make this fun as well as realistic.
This is a great game. The only thing I didn't like was that nothing really changed except the new Pro Tak. But even so, it's nothing really different from the Truck Stick. Other than that it's a great game rent or buy.
