All the Small Things

First and foremost... I put this game way down on my queue thinking one day I might use it for achievement points. That being said, and out of the way, the game is not bad. The game play is smooth, tried and true, if not mundane Madden select from a heap load of sets-pick the arrows you like most-hike-and-go gameplay. You know what you are getting.
This review however is of some of the little side things Madden wants you to do in the game. There is Franchise mode. Ring mode. All Star mode. So on and so forth. The options are plentiful. The BIGGEST gripe is... the MENUS & design choices. They suuuuuck. Controller-punting stuff. Unintuitive. If you do not have an instruction manual and want to do anything other than play a game.... prepare for a pretty good boil over for about 15minutes or so. Example: I tried to simulate a season to get to the draft mode. Wanted to pick up some players coming from college. The game(thankfully) lets you allow the CPU do all the routine "un-fun" stuff, while giving you the choice to play, simulate or supersimulate each individual game. The problem is the ONE thing the game will NOT allow you to skip is... get this... hiring coaches. Yes, hiring FREAKIN COACHES! You have to find, research and make offers to each coach to fill out your team. Then you cant even backout of the mode if you want to. I was done. Give me my quick achievement points.... I'm going home.
Oh and nothing in the menu system lets you know if you are actually in the modes you want to be in. Soooo happy this is a 3 year old game. Imagine if I had to wait a year to get something better. Good game. Awful non-gamefly presentation.
