Its a lot of fun. Right off the bat you'll fee that you're getting a really good response from the controls. The QB motions are right on and the only thing about the entire game that brings it down from greatness is the defensive game. There's a feeling that you can't do much on defense and while you'll contribute to the occasional block/interception, most of the time you're not that involved. But from someone that's played madden for years, i've never felt that the defensive game was as much fun or as easy to control as the offensive game. The graphics are just fine by the way. Its not the 360 but its still good.
Ok let's start this review by saying 2 things. 1. This is the Wii, not the PS3 so set your graphical expectations accordingly. 2. Its football, how much can the in game graphics really matter/differ any way, this isn't like boxing or golf where you zoom in on one person, there are like 28 guys on that field so you so zoomed out graphics dont matter that much.
Ok that being said, this is a huge improvement on football control. In playing madden in the past there were some things I just never got a grip on others that simply weren't there. I could never get the feel for doing touch passes. with the wii its easy. juking and stiff arming and spinning always became mash buttons and hope your guy gets by, with wii its intuitive, shake to the left you jump left. It does take a little getting use to the timing an such but its nice not to have to guess which buttons.
This game handles great, and thats the most important thing about a sports game.
there is room for improvement (yea! Madden 08) there is no online for this game, so it hurts it's ownership/long term value. but this is gamefly, your renting, so it shouldnt matter too much.
Some of the controls could and likely will be refined a little, but all in all its definitely a worthy first attempt at what the wii is all about. changing the way you play games.
