Madden 07....Slow Motion?

he first thing I noticed playing Madden 2007 was the main menu loads were horrible. There was also a bit of a lag when scrolling down to choose game modes and options. I would press the D-Pad down twice and the reaction would occur about 2-3 seconds later. The actual loading from one screen to anther has greatly improved from the PS2 Madden. There are a few new changes from the 2006 Madden. Instead of the Truck Stick feature Madden 2007 presents the Highlight Stick. Instead of plowing up the middle through defenses your running back can now perform some sick moves/combos. Although the Truck Stick feature is still there but is mostly only used for bigger backs like Jamal Lewis. Another awesome feature is the "Lead Blocker Controls" which allows you to block for your running back during run plays. I did not try blocking blitzes on pass plays but I am hopeful that is included as well. My personal favorite was Strong formation, HB Sweep to left, and using my right tackle to block for my running back. This aspect of the game gives you more to do from both sides of the field.

Now let us get to the gameplay! First thing I noticed was the interface for picking plays. Which I believe is a huge upgrade from the PS2 version. I love the fact that you can either pick formations or situational plays. Instead of going though formations, I am able to actually go through just pass plays whether it is Shotgun passes or a Quick Slant. The same goes for running plays and clock management. Now for some reason in the next-gen era of Madden everything seems to move in slow motion. In the PS2 version, you go up to the line and snap at will. Here you need to wait for the QB to get to the line of scrimmage and wait a few seconds and then you can hut the ball. The motion of the QB while he is passing is also very slow. It does not feel smooth at all. Controlling the running back with the left analog stick is difficult and frustrating. I find myself using the D-Pad to maneuver my back.

Very Good

A First Shot for the Next Gen System

I have been playing Madden since 1990 but this game was my first experience with the next gen HD version of the game.
The AI is very realistic and your computer team mates seem pretty savvy compared to previous versions of the game. On offense, the highlight stick adds some fun to the running game. Although lead blocking is well executed, I was never super interested in being an OL in a video game, but it definitely doesn't take anything away from the game.
On defense the secondary reacts realistically to play fakes and D generally has satisfactory AI and play the ball realistically. The ability to jump the snap is a cool feature and adds a lot to being a defensive lineman.
I see a lot of people complaining about the controller setup, which doesn't make much sense for 2 reasons. First, I have been playing Madden for over a decade and the new controller while different does make more sense (you can sprint and catch at the same time without having to hit both the X and Triangle button simultaneously, etc.). Second, the CONTROLLER IS COMPLETELY CUSTOMIZABLE, so if it really bothers anyone they can change it to whatever they want.
Online play was choppy when I first hooked up my PS3, but I have noticed that with some firmware updates through PS3, that the gameplay has gotten smoother (though, I have no idea if those updates are what did it). The only annoying thing I found about online play was that when substituting a number of players (the PS3 rosters reset your starters every time you sign on) you cannot get it done in 30 seconds because the players headshots take so long to load, making substitutions a longer process than necessary. I also noticed the absence of fairplay rules, but it doesn't bother me because the game is realistic enough that if you are always going for it on 4th and 10, it'll hurt you more times than not.
Sometimes the frame rate does make the guys look like they run or tackle a little choppy or generic, but overall: Best Madden out now

I REALLY HOPE THAT EA WAS JUST TRYING TO PUT A MADDEN GAME ON THE SYSTEM FOR NOW. BECAUSE THAT GAME IS THE WORST MADDEN I'VE EVER PLAYED. THE GAME PLAY IS HORRIBLE, WHY THEY FELT THE NEED TO CHANGE ALL THE BUTTONS I DON'T KNOW. BUT WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED.I BELIEVE THEY REALLY JUST THREW THIS GAME OUT THERE TO HAVE IT.I COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT HOW BAD THIS GAME IS!!!!!!!!!!
