Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter is a shooter, plain and simple. No RPG elements, no free-roaming atmosphere, no upgrades, no shopping, no mini-games, just shooting. And good for Mace! Sometimes you just feel like blowing stuff up and this game let's you do that. Your weapons are pretty standard fare: shotgun, sniper, rocket launcher, machine gun, pistol, etc. You get some alien weapons, but nothing the Covenant didn't have in Halo. Speaking of Halo, Mace Griffin seems to have taken Master Chief's regenerating shield technology as a bounty. Many of the element here will remind you of Halo, but Mace has a few cool tricks up his sleeve. The alternative fire modes of his weapons are pretty cool, from lobbing grenades with your machine gun to pre-loading four shotgun shells. You'll need the firepower, as each of the 12 missions can take an hour or two. And I should mention the enemy is well-equipped and effective at killing you. Yes, this game is hard. Space battle seems even harder. Load yourself into a ship and get ready for the onslaught of fast fighters and rapid-fire turrets. I suppose the biggest problem with the game is it's difficulty. A few more well-placed checkpoints would have gone a long way toward alleviating this. Some aggravating escort missions and a good measure of backtracking don't help either. There are also many times when you'll have no idea of what to do or where to go.
Basically, this is a shooter. While long and difficult, it's not particularly innovative or unique. What you see is what you get. But that's not such a bad thing.
