I have a really weird feeling towards this game. I, personally, really enjoyed the first two Lost Planet games. They had a simple concept and were all around fun, in my opinion. This game is a solid title, but it's just not Lost Planet. Yea, the enemies and environments are similar, but the way the game felt in the previous titles isn't even close to how this game feels. I used to love the idea of being able to grapple onto anything in a tricky situation and move around with ease. I feel like they tried to give this game a Dead Space/Gears Of War vibe, and it didn't need it. All in all, I think it's a good game, but it sadly becomes more and more repetitive and it can become dull if you play too long in one sitting.
Aside from the lame and limited gameplay, the real point of frustration for me was the poor/limited thought given by the designers to making the game enjoyable and aggravation-free. Case in point: when you die fighting the first crab-creature (which you will), you are forced to sit through the minute-plus cinematic all over again. What idiot thought this was a good idea, as opposed to re-starting the battle right at the moment it begins? The same thing happens later when you encounter another crab-creature in a cavern. When you die (which you will) you're taken back to the entrance to the cavern where you have to walk for a full minute just to start the battle scene all over again. Idiotic! And frustrating!! Don't waste my time! It was at this point that I ejected the disc and mailed it back in.
Additionally, the HUD screen text is too small to read easily, even on my 70" screen, and is often impossible to read against the background, depending upon where you're standing. Aiming the weapons is frustratingly difficult. First-person is SOOO much easier for shooters.
Aside from all of these poor design elements, there is limited gameplay outside the main story line, making this a very unsatisfying game to play. Thumbs down, and whoever ultimately signed off on releasing this game without putting it through solid QA testing should be demoted.
Same combat mechanics as earlier games which I like, but now there's way too much talking to people, walking around, and waiting for storyline stuff to play out. I much prefer just picking a level and jumping straight into the action from there. Movies are for watching, games are for playing.
