I haven't played past versions of this game, but as a single stand alone version this game is pretty disappointing. The singing is not nearly as fun as the Rock Band versions, and the song selection, while decent, is incredibly small. Yeah, you can download more from their library, but shouldn't the game have enough to occupy you for a few months at least without resorting to DLC? I would say so...
While there is some nostalgia value in here for people in their 30s and above, the video is so grainy you want to shoot yourself. So you might ask, why bother with this game when Rock Band 2 is still amazing? The answer is, you shouldn't.
Oh and to get the full benefit of the game, you need a mic made for this game. The rock band mic will work, but won't register dance or instrument moves, so if you want the whole experience you'll have to spend another 30 bucks for a wireless mic that supports it. Oh, and it seems to take ten minutes to load up the library every time you try to just go into the regular game to play. Maybe there is a way to tweak this, but I didn't care enough to try to be honest.
The actual gameplay is not bad, but with the shortage of songs, the mic, the long load up time, grainy video, and overall lackluster feel, this game really is not worth even renting.
The game has so much that you can do! It is absolutely amazing! There are many songs that everyone loves that you can sing. You can also take songs off your music player or xbox and sing kareoke to the songs. Though there isn't words for the uploaded songs there are so much that you can do and its just so beautiful. =D
