Remember the original Spyro games, with all the mini games, skateboarding, gems, running around and exploring and collecting things? That Spyro is dead. They have resurrected the purple dragon into a crummy world of agonizingly repetitive combat, elaborately dull plot, and small levels with little to explore. The only reason the game is this long is that you are constantly trapped in combat, wave after wave of the same mobs, over and over and over again. No more bears that take all your money, no more funky themed levels, no cow-abducting aliens. They've tried to make Spyro dramatic and serious, and that just makes this game identical to all the other 'run around and kill things' games. The old games were beautiful, quirky and original. The only redeeming factors in this one are the voice talents, but I would take old buzzing Sparx in a colorful, engaging and humorous setting than David Spade any day. Don't rent this game, don't buy this game. Get on eBay, buy all the old ones and play them over again. It will be much, much more fun, I promise.
