Interesting, but too old fashioned

This is a game from an older age. If it were a gameboy advance game, it would've stood up better, but as it is it's just too simple and mediocre to really stand out.

The gameplay is interesting, with a 'formation' tactic involved, but the overall experience is too simplistic, resulting in a mere 'paper-rock-scissors' element added to the typical RPG format.

This is a fine tactical game for beginners, but anyone else will just get bored.

A little too simple for most gamers

Laevatein Tactics looks good from the outside. Tactics based gameplay is promised, but not really delivered. What you end up having is a 4-point rock-paper-scissors gameplay with a little bit of add-on depending on where you're standing on the grid and what type of unit you're using.

So while you move around on a grid, instead of having fun interactions like in games such as FF Tactics or Disgaea, you have what amounts to a dumbed down version of Ogre Battle where you have 8 auto-attackers in front of your hero. I played for five hours and didn't see a single deviation in game play.

Maybe it's aimed at a younger audience, the simplicity would be explained then.

Otherwise it's a fairly typical japanese based RPG storyline. I didn't see anything new in the time that I played it.
