After playing through a recent string of Lego games, including Batman 2, Movie, City Undercover, and Marvel, I can't say there's much in Hobbit that separates it outside the aesthetic. If you've played ANY Lego game, you know what you're getting here: A cute take on a popular IP (Intellectual Property) with various bugs/glitches and floaty frustrating jumping, basic puzzle solving, and a lot of things to do for completionists.
There's nothing inherently wrong with Lego The Hobbit, it just feels like it's time for the developer to make a few changes to the formula to make the Lego series feel more fresh. At this point, it feels like I'm playing a game from 2000. There's a lot to do here, and an "open world" of sorts, but it didn't feel worth my time to explore it.
The game was much shorten than the movie and my son had to restart levels several times because a character would glitch under the world or become stuck in an animation loop that disallowed any sort of player controlled movement. From what I have seen of his other lego games this is a growing problem. Would recommend waiting for the next one to purchase. Maybe they will atleast combine all six of the series like starwars.
