The Grass Feels like Pants!

Finally Kirby gets his own game for the Wii, and it's a great one at that.

The main draw of this game is the art style, everything is made of yarn, fabrics, buttons, stitches, and crafts! It looks really great and is very colorful.

Your main weapon of attack is a magical whip made of yarn. You'll grab enemies, and can roll them up into balls and throw them back. Kirby's trademark sucking ability is absent in this game, but there's many transformations that make up for it. A few of the transformations include: a car, a dolphin, a driller, and even a giant robot. The transformation sequences were always fun, and the dolphin in particular was my favorite.

The game is pretty easy, as you can't die. You just lose points, in the form of the beads that you collect throughout the level. The game becomes difficult if you want to try to make it out of the level with a gold rank (by not getting hit by enemies). Plus the 3 hidden treasures in each level will add a bit of difficulty and a lot more playtime to the game. You also have a house that you can decorate with the treasures you find throughout the levels.

The game is fairly short, and you'll easily beat it in just a couple of days. Which might make this game appropriate for just renting, unless you're the type who loves to collect everything and frequently replays games.

Either way, don't miss this epic adventure!

Very Good

Great game, but limited audience

The game deserves a much higher score than I can give it, since the game itself is solid. All the problems I can come up with relate to the target demographic of this game: I'm not in it.

If you're looking for a game for a 4-7 year old kid, this might be geared towards them. If you're an adult with a fondness of 2D platformers and have a kid around that age group, even better. The cooperative co-op will make for a chance for the both of you to enjoy playing together, and the single player mode can be fun for the other party to watch. Most of the levels are really easy, seeing as how you can't die in this game. Finding all the hidden items (some of which are needed to unlock side missions) can sometimes be difficult, but I only had to search a level three times on one occasion (before I gave up on the game). The side missions, and extra levels (levels that get unlocked for getting enough beads when besting level bosses, but aren't needed to continue the story) can keep you going for hours, even if you're a hardened gamer. If the game still appeals to you by this point, you'll probably want to keep/buy it.

Now, this game isn't for everyone. I enjoyed it for the first half, but once I reached a certain point, the lack of difficulty and the overly cute & adorable nature of this game was just too much. I started finishing levels as quickly as I could, just to finish them. Then I had what I thought was one world left. I was going to quit, but since I was almost finished, I stuck it out, only to see that the final boss battle was after yet another world. Oh well, I finished that and the boss in about 30 minutes. Why would I do this? Because I love platformers, and this is a good one, even if it makes me cringe to say that.

As for the graphics, the yarn really makes for nice visuals on the Wii.

Excellent

Different then other Kirby games

When playing this game I was disappointed. Kirby can no longer suck up his enemies and steal their powers. However, playing through this game, I enjoyed the risk Nintendo took and it paid off. From the level design to the boss battles, epic yarn reinvents what a platform game is capable of. The mini games are entertaining, but you have to do the annoying room design quest which I did not find too entertaining.

Overall this game is a great rent to try something new or if you are a long time Kirby fan.
