Just to make things clear, this reveiw is coming from a die hard KOF fan. I've been a fan since the very start of the series but this entry has to be the worst official installment in KOF history.
First and foremost I will praise, HIGHLY praise the graphics. SNK finally decided to step up and start a new direction to draw sprites in. The graphics are beutiful. To the stages, characters, effects...hands down great.
Gameplay wise you can tell this is KOF. It just has that particular style and mechanics that just work so well. I always loved the KOF series for this fact.
Now lets talk about the roster. Its just hands down horrible. If SNK had only taken a few more months and prolong the release they could have added more character. I appreciate the time and effort that went into all of the sprites. Dont think im underminding that fact. Most of my all time favorite characters are no where to be seen like Yamazaki, Rugal, Eiji, Yuri, Takuma, Mai and Geese.
Music? Nothing to write home about. My ear didnt catch anything noticibly great. Nothing to praise here except that the music fits in.
Now this is the really big problem for me. Theres no story! No extras! You go through a 6 level arcade style mode and thats it. Just a congratulations screen at the end. No other modes like survival or color edit...6 levels is all you get.
All and all this is the most dissapointing fighting game I have played in a very long time. I actaually felt like sending it back the very same day I got it. And to think that this game came from fighting game veteran SNK. Theres definitly going to be some DLC but unless the pack has 15 more characters and other modes like Survival, it will not even help this game in the slightest. Im just glad I didnt have to waste 60 bucks on this game. Very glad.
