Not Your Average FPS.

Lets face it: Since the "next-gen" systems were released, we've been flooded with tons of shooters. You have the good (think: Call of Duty 4). Then you have the bad (Conflict: Denied Ops).
However, Killzone 2's shine can not and will not be ignored.
Guerrilla Games have created an impressively polished, smooth experience. The amazing visuals, rapid gameplay, and fluid animations are almost surreal in quality.
The atmosphere is almost unbelievable. The explosions, the lighting, the smoke, the fire. It all seemed to melt perfectly together to form an eery immersiveness. Trust me, some parts in this game can really take your breath away. Graphically, I haven't seen anything near it's level.
The online play is also no stick-in-the-sand, and provides satisfying matches. I loved that there was a good sense of customization here: there are 7 different classes to choose from, and you can mix and match abilities. Also, the graphics (yeah, again) seemed to display at there level of awesome through all my matches. One more thing; no lag. This was a big surprise, because I thought there would surely have to be some slow-down.
Some other things to mention; no install, tough-as-nails enemies, great AI, and a light, good story.
Now, lets's start the nagging. My only grief with this game is probably the VO. I couldn't get away from it. It kinda sounded like they were just saying their parts, effortlessly at times. Also, there is a bit of a pause when the game is loading, but that's not so much a design flaw, but merely an aggrivation. And the lack of split-screen multiplayer always makes me mad.
Overall, Killzone 2 is a very visceral, mind-blowing ride. Everything's top-notch, with my only complaint being the bland voice-overs. However, you won't find a shooter that plays or looks any better than this. A must have for any PS3 owner.
Killzone 2: 10/10
