An underrated game that did a lot of right things.

I spent a good deal of time with this game, and I have to say, it left me mystified and just a little disturbed. Killer 7 was directed by Suda 51, the same guy behind projects like No More Heroes and other not really well known games. If anyone's played a Suda 51 game, you'll know that they're usually quite stylized with a touch of flair that can't be compared to other games out there. That's what this game does.
First, the story. Probably the best part of Killer 7, it's amazingly deep and disturbing story will make you think constantly about what's really going on, and leave you with a lot of questions. The game intentionally wants you to piece it together, and let me tell you, the story was probably the main reason I stayed hooked to this game.
The gameplay was something a lot of critics hit on, calling it too clunky, and too different. I, however, enjoyed it. You move the 7 personas around the world on rails by holding the A button, and you choose the paths you take with the directional stick. It's third person when doing this, but once the game's enemies appear, you switch to a first person view to take them out. The shooting is fun, and promotes accurate aiming (you'll see why when you play it) instead of shooting wildly. The puzzles in the game are all quite good as well; a lot of them stumped me for a good amount of time.
The game does have a few cons. Some people might not like the stylized graphics, or the controls. It's a matter of preference. I liked them though.
The replay value is so-so, but other people might disagree. After beating it once, there's a Killer8 mode with a new persona and intense difficulty. If you manage to beat that, there's one last easter egg mode. I enjoyed it more as a one playthrough experience.
All in all, this game is a marvelous demonstration of well thought out story, and it tries to be something different. And it works. Play it if you're looking for something deep. Otherwise, don't. In the name of Harman...
