This game needs more than an engine

When Mario Kart Wii came out, it was one of the most successful Wii games, selling a whole lot of copies.
It was so much a success that other companies have tried to build upon the gameplay that game had. But most of the time, they just end up mimicking that game.
Such is the case for Jimmie Johnson’s Anything with an Engine. Take Mario Kart Wii, limit the weapons to three (rocket, mine, side ram), and you get this game.
There are 13 tracks featured in JJAWAE as well as up to 11 vehicles (You start off with seven, and get the other four after winning a cup in single player mode)
And the modes are almost the same as a typical racer.
There’s single player mode where you compete in up to eight cups (you have to win the first to get to the second and so on.) Each cup has six events that you have to win on order to get to the seventh event, a race against Jimmy. Win that race and you get the cup and go on to the next cup (as well as unlock a locked vehicle.)
There’s a single event mode where you can race against the AI in any of those 13 tracks as well as a multiplayer mode where you and up to three other players race against each other and some AI racers on one of those 13 tracks.
But there’s nothing new on display here that I haven’t seen in Mario Kart Wii or Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing. The presentation is bland, the weapons are repetitive (and can really get annoying), and the single player mode is not very fun. It’s best just to play this game multiplayer.
Jimmy Johnson’s Anything With an Engine is a good racer, but it does not live up to the bar set by other racing games like Mario Kart Wii. RENT IT.
