Not Bioware's best.

I love Bioware. KOTOR 1 & 2, and the Mass Effect trilogy are some of my favorite games ever. So I was quite excited to finally get this shipped to me. Sadly, I was in for a disappointment.

Graphics: The textures themselves are alright, but where this game really suffers is its detail. Especially comparing it to games older than it is, such as KOTOR, the character models are very boring and the environments get very repetitive very quickly. What's really annoying are certain effects, like the way my character rolls her shoulders after every single fight. Ugh.

Music: This game has the same composer as the Mass Effect franchise, Jack Wall. After actually loving the ME soundtrack so much I went out and bought it, I had high hopes for Jade Empire. It wasn't to be. The soundtrack quickly grows cliche, and I hear the same songs used again and again.

Combat: The game isn't bad, if it was I wouldn't have given it a 6. But it's just not all that good. The combat system is a real-time kung fu system that has serious flaws. You can't attack while moving, which is a huge pain. Unless you want to stop attacking to run up to your opponent all the time, you need to invest in a style that automatically jumps for you when you button mash. Speaking of such, that's what it is- a button-masher. There's the basic attack, which you'll mash for the whole game. There's a heavy attack, which is only useful to break defenses. And then there's a shield button which I never used. There's also a focus system that slows down time, it's useful enough for bosses but overall I found the system far too simplistic. Furthermore, there are far too many individual styles to assemble and pick through - I don't have time to try them all, nor do I really care to.

Story: It was an incredibly cheesy story, and one that I didn't care about at all. Especially disappointing after other Bioware storytelling masterpieces. It wasn't predictable, but I didn't really care about any of the big plot twists

I got this game the year it came out around christmas time, I have fond FOND memories of sitting there looking out the window watching the snow fall as my game loaded then proceeding to play until my eyes hurt. This game is bar none the best bioware game for the original xbox. Now i know KOTOR is out there and some of you may say well what makes this better than that masterpiece. First of all the combat is so entirely different from any game i've ever played. I think there are like 2 weapons you can get in the game or maybe buy some more later but anyway the whole game is played pretty much just busting people in the lip with your hands and feet. Also the ability to turn into a frog demon or a skeleton horse is freaking sick. The characters you meet are some of the best in any game i've ever played. I felt so attached to them and there are decisions you have to make in the game that make you feel like junk either way because you can't please all of your "friends". I slip this game in ever christmas break and play it through and it is a great experience each time. The only gripe I have is that i wish it were longer or atleast let you continue game play after the main story line is over....but hey they can't all be oblivion can they. Also another complaint is that once it is beaten, you will want to play it again but there really is no experience with this game like the first time you play it
