Izuna brings a few, but not many, new things to the dungeon crawling genre. It also lacks a few of the norms, such as resetting your level to 0 and requiring a constant supply of food. You will, however, lose all your items should you die whilst within a dungeon. There is, however, a way to escape any given dungeon with your items, giving you a "safety net" with which to work.
The safety net is through the Talismans which comprise most of the unique aspects of the game. Talismans can be used like spells in other RPGs with effects ranging from fire to teleportation and the like. Talismans can also be "stuck" onto any weapons and armor you might find, in order to boost their effectiveness. There are limitations to sticking talismans, and being smart in doing so and ending up with an ultimate, but unique weapon, is where this game shines.
The other aspects are pretty much a given for the genre; hacking your way through dungeons full of strange monsters, earning money and experience, and fighting a boss at the end. Each boss you defeat will unlock some new feature that makes your game a bit easier, but the dungeons get a little harder as the game goes on, as one would expect.
It's standard fare, and one who has not enjoyed the genre thus far should not look here for any change of faith. Those who have enjoyed previous games, however, may find more happiness lurking within.
