...in that its just another generic third person shooter with a poorly implemented world altering gimmick.
Take a the basic mechanics of Gears of War (especially the roadie run and chest high walls everywhere), make Dom the main character and switch wife for daughter, throw in some locust...err I mean "Lutadores" that tunnel up from the ground, and you have Inversion in a nutshell. The inclusion of a device on your back that can increase or decrease gravity does little to change that you'll still be firing from behind chest high walls for most of the game. There are the rare occasions that you'll need to walk on walls/ceilings or float through debris fields but they are over quickly and don't affect gameplay. Oh and I hope you like fighting bosses like the fat slave master or big mech because you'll be doing that a lot, sometimes back to back!
Now I've seen some reviews here try to defend the story, which is nearly as hilarious as the story itself. You barely get to meet the two main characters before the bleep hits the fan, and the whole rest of the game the main guy has one note aka "WHERE'S MY DAUGHTER!!!1!1!!". His partner (whose name I couldn't be bothered to remember either) does only two things; suck and die constantly and that's when he isn't getting you killed while trying to revive him.
There is a "big twist" near the end that is so stupid its hilarious! That's because it not only is listening to the actors trying to emote terrible as ever, but the twist just creates so many plot holes I dare you not to fall over laughing at the absurdity of it all.
I can admit that there are a few nuggets of good ideas that in the hands of a better dev could really do something with it. But this game is just a poor mans Gears of War with a shallow gravity gimmick tossed in and lame story. You can beat it in a weekend and will forget about it even quicker.
I really enjoy this game. IGN, Gamespot and so on don't really get into what the game is about they just take a broad step back and see what anyone can see.
You will see a lot of reviews saying the story is a weak point. The only part of the story I didn't like was the dialouge at some points. People complain cause you don't know where the Lutadore come from or what they want thats not the point of the game the point is, is you are a cop not some military sargant or something that can go and find this out. it gives it a more personal level so you don't feel like your carrying out an order or doing someone elses dirty work you are doing your mission what you care about. the point of the game isn't to find out what who or why its to find what truly matters to you.
this all depends on opinion and preference so I am just going to add this the boss fights could have been done better
overall i think this is a good game and will give it an 8 outta 10

This is a good game just dont play it on high gravity difficulty from the start. Thats what i did and got more than half way through the game before it was almost impossible. So unless you have an online team to play with on this game i suggest the lower difficulties or just take your time, this game has alot to it. If only they didnt make the difficulties so confusing in it.
