The end of the world doesn't get any more entertaining than in Independence Day. Mankind looks to the skies in awe as mysterious alien motherships suddenly appear over Earth's major cities. Soon, the awe turns to fear and worse as the aliens destroy the cities, leaving humanity scrambling to survive. As a rag-tag band of survivors heads to Area 51, U.S. President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman) rallies his forces, vowing that mankind will not go softly into the night. Out of the chaos comes an unlikely pairing: hot-shot pilot Captain Steve Hiller (Will Smith) and science-minded civilian David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum), who team up to play heroes in the battle for Earth's survival.
