I was all set to like this game, I really was. I played the living daylights out of these games in the arcade and always had fun with them. When I saw they were coming to the Wii, I thought "Great, now I can play them at home."
At first glance, they are everything you'd expect them to be. They are a direct port from the arcades, right down to the sketchy plot and forced voice acting. Great, fantastic. Only not.
I had a similar encounter with the port of Time Crisis 4. Looks great and is identical in nearly every way to the arcade version with a few upgrades. Dandy. Except both House of the Dead 2 & 3 and Time Crisis 4 suffer from a FATAL flaw that TOTALLY killed my enjoyment of them: they limit the number of times you can continue.
In the arcade, no problem. You keep pumping credits in, you keep playing. Here, sadly, you get mired in nearly the same place every time, with the same mobs coming out of nowhere to take your life away. Life doesn't come any easier and goes just as fast as it ever did, only now you can't just feed the machine another couple quarters to keep playing. If you run out of continues (you can set it at up to 5 credits, a pitiful 3 with Time Crisis 4) you're done. End of story.
I don't know who's bright idea it was to limit the number of times you can continue, but whoever it was: thanks, you just killed not one but two great games for me.
In it's defense, I will say that if you like a challenge and loved the House of the Dead games, you'll probably have a good time with this for at least a half an hour. After that, I wouldn't expect much from it except to collect dust.
Game is just like the house of the dead for the arcade, only problem is that you get a set amount of credits and when you are out, you are out and there are no cheat codes to get more. You can beat the HOD2 using modifiers once you beat the game and one of the modifiers are unlimited credit, but when it comes to HOD3 there are no cheats and or modifiers so beating the game on even very easy is near impossible as I can only get less then 1/2 way threw. Game needs more because it is no fun if I can never beat HOD3
It's a fun game if you have a friend over, but other then that its not very great I had part 2 on the dream cast and it was the same as the wii version. It's worth a shot if you and a friend want to kill some time but other then that nothing to go crazy over
