I'm really enjoying Henry Hatsworth over the past few days. It combines the side scrolling platforming of a New Super Mario Bros, with the puzzle color matching of a game like Bejeweled, and challenges you to swap between the two through the course of the level.
It sounds unusual, but its actually working pretty well. You'll jump and slash through a level on the top screen, and when you build up enough on your meter, a button press will freeze the top screen and send you to the bottom to play the puzzle game. Down there, you'll grab power ups and beat bad guys by matching colors. The meter will run down, and eventually send you back up to the side scrolling.
Its got a nice bit of EA polish and feels like something new, although separately, the platforming and puzzling are probably nothing you haven't seen before. It hasn't been all that hard through the first 15% of the game either, but it really hasn't made me want to stop playing.
The graphics and audio are also nice. In my opinion its worth at least a Gamefly rent if you are in the mood for something familiar, but also something fresh and new.
