Dang that's a catchy title.
It's too bad the game wasn't as catchy. This is going to be a short review as I didn't even get through the 1st level.
As a fan of the movies, and now the graphic novels (I had seen them before, but was not a reader until the 1st movie came out), I was expecting a lot from this game. I should have read some of the other reviews from here first.
The first thing I noticed was the graphics, or lack there of. There is a cut scene where "bats" come flying out of a forest, but they are more like black blobs with what appear to be wings. The game play isn't any better.
What should have been an open world game (even on a linear path) was bad. Yes, you can move around the screen, but you can't change the camera angle very well. "Looking around" consists of the camera panning about 2 inches either left or right. Combat is the simple mashing of the "X" button (on the 360 at least) until you get carpal tunnel in your thumb. Occasionally you can hit "Y" to kick something or randomly pull the left trigger to shoot. However the aiming system is weak, so you have to take the games word for it that you're going to shoot your target.
As I said above, I didn't even get through the 1st level. After mashing "X" for 20 minutes, my fingers hurt and I didn't feel like I was getting anywhere. The only semi-redeeming factor of the game was Ron Pearlman doing the voice of Hellboy.
Avoid this game at all costs. Sorry Hellboy fans....
