If you liked GH1,2,3 and wish you could play those songs on drums, or sing along, this game is it. Looks like most of the songs (all difficulties) have been updated too, as in new notes, slides challenges. All in all, I feel this game has some of the best songs ever in a GH game, so even if you have played GH1,2,3 you should give this a shot. The difference between Smash Hits and the other new games, is that the song selection tends to be more the songs you want to hear by a particular artist, ie the radio hits. Newer GH games have lots of good artists, but not always the most interesting songs, Smash Hits goes against this grain. In my opinion Smash Hits is the best GH game, because its made up of the best songs from the best era (GH1-3) of GH.

If you've played all of the guitar hero games to date then you've already played this game. It's nice to have it on the ps3 plus you can use all of the instruments. This games pretty cool but not worth a buy. You'll be over your nostalgia for the ps2 and wired guitar in about an hour. Nothing wrong with it really just nothing great either.
This game was fun to play, but little song selection (and a not too good one at that) fade the value of this purchase quickly. But it is a perfect rental if you are looking to play through a couple of unknown songs. I just wouldn't have necessarily dubbed it smash Hits, since many of the GH franchises true SMASH HITS are nowhere to be found on this disc. I'd say 13 fun songs and the rest is whatever.
