The biggest concerns about any Guitar Hero is the song selection and the note placement, especially with Neversoft (from the Tony Hawk series) taking over the reigns. They have done an excellent job and added some new twists of their own.
The core gameplay is exactly the same (as it should be), but now you'll be informed when you have a note streak going (and additional stats, in case you mess up). A series of lit light bulbs have also replaced the "Star Power" meter, which is mostly cosmetic.
Song selection spans various eras and styles, but all are Guitar-centric. I especially liked the extended pull-offs needed for Weezer's "My Name is Jonas". However, song taste is subjective so you should check out the song list online to see if it's worth your time.
The new battle mode is great, like mario cart with a guitar! But it does highlight how much one sucks as opposed to how good one is...instead of a banana peel in the road, take double notes!
This is for those who are about to rock!!!
