Movie Description

A change from the fantasy settings of a lot of Japanese animated features, Grave of the Fireflies is a realistic tale about World War II Japan. The human cost of War is detailed extensively through the lives of children. In the story, brother and sister Setsuko and Seita are forced to leave their city and live in an abandoned bomb shelter. With no help coming from anywhere, the pair must depend on each other for everything, from basic shelter to food. There is little positive in their lives, but they manage to find hope in the light of the fireflies. A grim and realistic movie, Grave of the Fireflies grows ever more depressing as the two children slowly succumb to malnutrition and Death haunts their every move.

I watched this movie a few years ago and it was very memorable. You feel so bad for the children. I highly recommend watching it, but stock up on tissues!more
