Imagine a game of Monopoly where instead of meekly paying rent to the owner when you land on Boardwalk, you kick him in the teeth and take it over from him. Also, imagine that when you acquire all properties of the same type you don't build houses or hotels, you get bonuses like brass knuckles and bullet proof vests. That pretty much sums up the premise and gameplay in Godfather 2.
Godfather 2 is an ambitious game with some really interesting core gameplay mechanics that unfortunately is very rough around the edges. EA has rolled out a game that tries to differentiate itself from the GTA style of game play in ways. In that goal they have succeeded for both good and bad.
The Good:
Don View: An excellent 3d map interface which gives you the ability to manage your "family affairs" at a strategic level. This succeeds in giving you the feel of being the Don and controlling an entire, ahem, "business enterprise".
Entertaining Gun Play and Melee Combat
The Bad:
Sub Par Graphics and Art Design for current Generation release. Building and car models are just plain ugly and unpolished looking. "Texture Pop" is the norm rather than the exception.
Map Design. There are three maps in the game, "New York", "Florida" and "Cuba" You travel around on your missions in three bland Potemkin villages that attempt to simulate the locales they represent but really don't feel like living, breathing cities. The "Liberty City" of GTA 4 and the 1940's New York of the first Gofather game feel much more real.
Bugs. No showstoppers but still annoying and should have been cleaned up. NPC's ruuning in mad circles at times, NPC's merging in the same spot and sticking out of walls were the worst.
Nudity way overdone.
Overall, an entertaining game if you can get past some of its flaws.
