Ascension does not ascend God of War 3 or any of the other previous entries.
Right off the bat the game feels bland and empty. Remember The opening scene to God of War 3 when Poseidon plunges off Mt. Olympus and attacks one of the Titans? or remember when Medusa constantly berates Kratos throughout Medusa's Lair until the actual confrontation at the end of the level in God of War 2? Well Ascension loses that feeling completely during the opening scene.
A couple of hours in you begin to see improvements to the combat system, however it does not make the game feel new or refreshing. Same Square Square Triangle combos we are all used too, same quick time events only now you can dodge and attack during certain animations. Secondary weapons are cool but it doesn't really add anything to the table.
Basic elements of platforming and puzzle solving return to mix things up aside from the already repetitive combat.
Overall its a good attempt to fit one last God of War in before the next generation of Console's appear. However it will be forever forgotten and will never live up to the grand scale of the previous God Of Wars. Kratos Lust for Vengeance against Greek Gods and Enormous Titans fueled by his anger and Hate really made God of War a Great Trilogy. Ascension falls flat on its face as we get a tamer, chalkier looking Kratos.
