Weird but fun!

I rented this game on a recommendation from a friend. I enjoy Guitar Hero and my friend said this is very close to it for the PSP. I thought that there is no way that the PSP could match the fun of Guitar Hero with the awesome controller. Well I was wrong... This game makes you feel like you are making the music. The story is a little weird but the rewards are great. I really enjoyed this game!

I found this game on a ps2 demo disc at a friend's house back in the day, and I was instantly hooked. I was incredibly excited to find out that they'd re-released it for my psp, as I'd since parted ways with the ps2, and the game.

I won't spend any time trying to explain how the gameplay works. Suffice it to say it's unique, addictive, and incredibly fun. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's also on the difficult side. The story is quirky at best, and pretty obviously poorly translated and cheesily dubbed. Normally, this annoys me and detracts from the experience. In the case of Gitaroo Man, though, I find it adds to the charm. Am I biased? Probably...but it's how I feel.

As others have mentioned, the song list is unfortunately short, but what's here is incredible, and the levels could almost be described as punishingly difficult. I challenge even the most devout "expert" guitar heroes to beat the last few songs of Gitaroo Man on "Master Mode." It took me a very, very long time.

All in all, this is honestly one of my favorite games of all time. Is it a rhythm game? Obviously. Does it compare to Rock Band/Guitar Hero? I'd have to say no, because it's a completely different game. The gameplay is most similar, I suppose, to Parappa the Rapper...but it really is it's own game and should be experienced as such.

The ONLY complaint (beyond wanting a sequel and/or more songs) I have with this PSP remake of such a great game...is the loading times. They really are pretty ridiculous.

When this game first came out on the PS2 i spent hours upon hours in my room like a cave troll playing through it over and over trying to beat master mode, now I can finally play it outside!

The Gitaroo Man Lives! PSP port does an excellent job with the graphics and sound but i must say that the gameplay suffers ever so slightly. Nothing beats the PS2 controller when it comes to this game. On the PSP the little thumb nub can take a bit of getting used to, and it is akward to hold the PSP to use your index and middle finger on intense defense levels like the shark escape. In the end, it is still a wonderfull cult classic!
