Title says it. I popped the game in several times to try it and it never worked. The thing that really sucks is that it takes about a week or so to get my games. So I had to send it right back and wait another week or so to get another game and I was never compensated for it.
I could not believe that the Gears Of War franchise is so wildly popular after playing this game. I'm not even going to bother playing through the second and third ones. First off, the game fails to ever give you any context at all as to whats going on. I played three missions, expecting to get some kind of story, or something, ANYTHING telling me what the heck is happening. I had to go on wikipedia to figure out what these alien things were, what this war was about, and where my character ties into all of that. On a smaller level, the game fails to tell you why this mission objective is necessary, what you're going there to do and how it's going to help. Another thing I hated is the "tactics" (as they so boldly call them) of the game. It keeps telling you to 'go flank right!' which would make sense, if all four of your team members didn't follow you that way, making the maneuver completely pointless. The mechanics of everything were EXTREMELY frustrating. You're supposed to constantly duck behind cover and make smart shots and plays, but the duck mechanic is so horribly slow and clumsy, I found it vastly more effective to just stand behind something and move out to take a shot on my own. The push Y to see an objective feature is rarely useful, and usually just screws you over as you look at some pointless thing while you're being unloaded on by the enemies. I also found myself using the gun you start with through the entire game, including the final boss fight, some useful variety would be nice. There is a storyline, kinda, but since you really have no clue whats happening the majority of it is completely lost on you. I only understood the game after reading wikis entire entry and then playing it through a second time. The action was cool I suppose, but any shooter with big guns and aliens could accomplish the same thing, and many scenes that are supposed to be "bad455" just come off as super cheesy. I'm not 13 years old, you're gonna have to do better than that.
I just don't get what the whole world was going on about with this one. It was a misery! I could only play the first 10 minutes before I just gave up. The camera movement is RIDICULOUS and gave my friend a headache as he watched me play. I got up to the point in training where you have to use grenades and then I had to turn it off. I have never played a game before where you were forced to break cover just to aim. I kept trying to bomb the baddies down below, but whenever I aimed at them, they shot me... repeatedly. I was just trying to aim at them, but, again, I couldn't keep cover to do so. UNACCEPTABLE! I've heard so many good things about this game that I couldn't wait to play it, but BOY! What a disappointment! I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I can hold my own. This game was just stupid though. Trying to guide my guy while in "Roadie Run" mode was infuriating. Doing this run changed the game's physics (a cheap cheat, if you ask me). I was running into walls and failing miserably. As I said before, I know from games and can usually kick serious butt, but this one was just too frustrating. Guess I won't be trying out GOW2 lol
