How the mighty have fallen ...

Epic blunder to say the least ... here's a great idea, lets outsource one of the greatist game franchises of all time and allow a company; that has not been involved with Gears until now; and let them to take away an essential weapon slot, invite a QA nightmare of glitches and break up the campaign into a drawn out series of ranked death matches.

I got to the the campaign mansion section, hit the eject button, returned the game ... and never looked back.

Gears of War set the high water mark on gaming as we know it today and now this? how the mighty have fallen.

Single player campaign not worth the time

I don't play online, so I can't talk about the multiplayer. I can, however, talk about the single player campaign.

Visuals: 7
Gamplay/Story: 3
Average: 5

I've played the other Gears of War games, and this one fits right in the same mold. Nothing too different or too new, and that's fine...sometimes changing things for the sake of changing things is a fruitless effort.

However, this game fails in one MAJOR way. It is just not fun to play. The characters are barely likable; the female character is actually so annoying I was hoping she'd get killed off at some point. The "flashback" story approach has been done before, and done better. Every level is basically the same, with very few new enemies introduced over time. The story itself doesn't make much sense, and in the end you don't really feel like anything was accomplished. The end boss battle is relatively easy compared to the rest of the game's endless firefights, so it seems anticlimactic. There is really no development of the main boss character, so there is no catharsis when you end up killing him - it just feels like another dead grub to go on top of the pile.

In the end, I found myself just wishing the game would end, and really hoped for a last-minute twist that would kill all of my team. I couldn't attach myself to any of them or the story, which is constantly broken up by the extremely segmented level design.

The visuals are good, but nothing spectacular. Some interesting moments looking over a destroyed landscape, but most of the game (90%+) takes place in destroyed buildings, which all look the same after a while.

Anyway, maybe the multiplayer makes up for it, but the single player campaign wasn't worth the time spent on it. I finished it in under a day, and hated every minute of it.

The campaign was short and way too easy. horde is gone new survival mode is terrible no grenades only a chose of two weapons per character. All in all worst gears I've ever played stopped playing after a day and couldn't wait to send it back
