Gallop Racer 2006 for PlayStation 2 Reviews by Gamers

As a huge fan of Gallop Racer 2004, I had high hopes for 2006. And I couldn't have been more disapointed. While the addition of betting on the races was brought back from earlier titles, too much was taken out from the previous title. The gameplay was boring and you were limited to one horse at a time.

For some reason they completely got rid of career which was what made 2004 so enjoyable to play. I doubt they will come out with any other Gallop Racers, but if they do I surely hope they don't base it off this version.

The race caller feature was just a complete waste of someone's voice as anyone who has ever actually watched a horse race knows that isn't how a race is called.

If I could have given this game a 0, I would have in a heartbeat.

here's the ten cent review: If you haven't played a Gallop Racer game before, do not play this one; you will have no idea what's going on, the game will not teach you, and you will eat your own face in frustration. If you have played a few before and want the newest iteration, you don't really need a review, as you have already made up your mind.

Having played GR 2004 I already had an idea of how to race my horse, and I got a hang of the minor variations (I can use the whip THREE ways now? Yippee!). I did have some difficulty figuring out the scheduling, as there is no telling whether too many races wears out your horse, or how you can attempt horse titles by choosing the right path to glory.

Essentially this game suffers from a combination of too much information and absolutely no tutorial. Unless the manual is the most comprehensive work since Wikipedia this game will frustrate all but the most dedicated aficionado.

If you still want a horse racing game, try Gallop Racer 2004. The extensive tutorial, amusing characters and shallower learning curve will do a lot more for the casual fan.
