I've gone through racing school and have raced a few times and I can honestly say that this game is the first game ever to give me the same sort of adrenaline rush as I get from real racing. The thing to bear in mind is that this is not a realistic racer. If you want to tweak camber and toe angles, get another game. If you want to carefully feed in the throttle while drift understeering out of the apex of a corner, get another game. If you want to take the smallest bump and retire from the race because of mechanical issues, get another game.

The core car behavior is there; turn in with too much rolling speed and you'll liftoff oversteer. Gas it too much without traction control and you'll kick the tail out. This game is to racers as Ace Combat is to flight sims. When played with a wheel, you can feel every bump and when the tires let go. If you play without aids like stability management and traction control, you get a significantly more challenging experience.

People have said the AI is stupid. Quite the contrary, in my opinion. Having been through racing school and knowing what drivers are supposed to do in situations I can say that the AI is virtually flawless, except for being slightly aggressive. They also make mistakes, and spin occasionally. For the first time I am not frustrated by AI that fails to "play by the rules".

All in all, if you've found console racing games like Forza 2 or Gran Turismo to be too stingy and complicated, this may just be the perfect compromise. Even if you do enjoy simulators you should check this out if only for a change of pace.

Those who truly understand The Race will love this game.
