You cannot believe the other reviews about this game. I rented it with very low expectations, and thought it would be a quick beat. It had awesome old school classic feeling to it like I was playing a NES game with better graphics.
It reminds me so much of Contra for NES and a mix of Smash TV with a little Lost Planet. It's a third person shooter, but total arcade style. I could just picture myself at the arcade, putting 50cents in to play this game, like the old X-men where like 8 people could play together on a giant screen. You can be like a dozen different GI Joe characters and they all have unique guns and special moves/abilities. No upgrading or customizing however.
This game was soo much fun, but expect arcade fun and that's it. Don't expect a ton of replay value or awesome online multi-player, great graphics or anything like that because that's not what it is. The co-op offline is sweet, and if you can find a buddy to play with this game gets twice as good.
You basically hold down RT to auto-fire and it aims it for you, while you can move which target it shoots to. The bullets fly which make gun battles intense with explosions. You can use cover and switch between GI Joe guys to whatever suits your taste, even during battles, like Ultimate Alliance.
Rent this for sure! And don't be put off by the 3.8 review. I've played/reviewed just about every shooter for the 360 and I'm not ashamed to say I liked this, even though the movie was a pile of hot smelly trash.
