I was quite unsure what to expect from this game, and when I started playing it i was thinking I'd play it for a few hours and send it back. The beginning of the game starts out rough, playing off of the old episodes, but adding twists. You will have to endure a good two hours of choppy story before you start to want to play it. When the story breaks off into original, all-new storytelling is when it becomes interesting.
Story: 8/10. This had to be bumped down a point because of the lethargic startup. Otherwise, the story is pretty well put together. You have to be pretty familiar with the anime series to enjoy it to its full extent.
Gameplay: 7/10. There are more things to alchemize in this game than its predecessor, like assorted weapons (throwing knives, katanas, etc.), mannable weapons (cannons, machine guns), and other helpful things like decoys or flashbombs. Bosses are put together very well, and can prove to be a fun challenge if you are slightly underleveled. Not being able to change the camera inversion brought down the score.
Voices: 10/10. All of the original characters from the anime are voiced by the same actors, and the new additions are voiced very well.
Cutscenes: 5/10. This is the games weakest spot. The cutscenes usually involve unmoving pictures of the characters face to face, while speaking to each other. The only cutscenes where their mouths actually move are in the original CGI cutscenes, which look like the anime. There aren't enough throughout the game for the score to be higher.
Length: 7/10. It is about 5-7 hours long, but there's enough story crammed into the game to be satisfying.
Music Score: 5/10. Weak. There are only about five tracks they cycle through during cutscenes, but the tracks for each area are a little more diverse.
Consensus: This game is worth a rent, but definitely not worth a buy. One playthrough, and you'll be done. Only rent it if you are a hardcore FMA fan.

Xplay gave this game a 2 out of 5, me and over a million Full Metal Alchemist fans and gamers where outraged, i played this game and liked it, i also beat it. it is kinda difficult, but very fun and addicting. this game takes place in the shows episodes 1-7 and the ending sets off right where the first game begins, i mean RIGHT when it begins, they get on the train the first started on, in the immortal words of Roy D. Mercer "By God". if you like the series or making weapons on the fly, play this sometime.
The game is better than its predecessor and it has improving features, I might add. The graphics are different this time. While the enviroments are 3D texturized, the characters are cel-shaded. "Anime graphics" that's what I call them but since Spider-man Unlimited and XIII are also cel-shaded thus called cel-shaded graphics. Anywho, the game is pretty good as my rating would show. Like I said, the review I wrote for the first game, this game could have been created as a FMA movie. This is another game for FMA fanatics. The story does NOT fit in the FMA series. The game takes you off from the first episodes of FMA and skips to the part where you're headed back to Central. In other words, this game is like a prequel to FMA and the Broken Angel BUT the game's story doesn't fit in the series. It screws up the first episodes of FMA. It's like they used the beginning of the story as a n excuse to create the game's storyline. The gameplay is the same but with improving features and the fighting is faster with more combos to execute.
PROS: Tired of reading what all of them are saying? Then have the english voice actors do the job for you! I never heard much of the english version of the anime and it's pretty interesting to hear. The combat system is great, nothing much to complain about. I love how I can transmute weapons from the ground, like the sword and the hammer. I like how I can watch the movie clips again after beating the game, I couldn't watch the ones from the first game because I needed to beat the game a second time which is painful to play again.
CONS: I saw a lot of CG pictures in this game. They were kool to look at but it would've been better to watch a movie clip of them. The only cutscenes you'll see only focuses on showing related events about the Curse of the Crimson Elixir. The conversation scenes, they weren't any much expressions from the characters. I was really disappointed about that.
If you're a fan of FMA then try playing this game.
