Front Mission: Evolved has a lot of good production values. The controls are not as tight as I would like for an action game, but the voice acting and overall look and feel of the game are good. The problem is that I was hoping for a turn based strategy game. This was nowhere close to that. The action elements were OK, if not a little generic. I was OK with it because of the generally high production quality of the title. However, the finding of hidden objects, money and power-ups seemed a little strange. OK. I get the repair and reloading. What I did not like so much was the money which buys you upgrades and hidden objects that do nothing as far as I could tell. It sort of distracted from the gameplay. They appear to have gone for a pure arcade feeling action game. A far departure from the turn based strategy. I tried it, it was OK, but frankly became disinterested in some of the cliché character archetypes and put it down. Maybe someday, when and if I am in the mood for some rather mindless action, I will rent it again.
