Just barely more creative than chess, still fun.

Fritz Chess is this new chess game on Wii in which you play simple chess in tournament mode, original style or adventure mode.
When you start the game, you pick an avatar for your profile, and then you get the choice of those modes.
Sometimes the chess pawns are dressed up like who they represent--e.g. king, queen, etc.
There is some challenge as well, such as you can add in a time limit, and so forth, but there isn't much else other than a good match of chess. You can play tournaments, adventure mode, and get detailed tutorials on how to play, for those who never learned. So there is a bit more replayability value on the game than you would think, but there's just barely more to do and more creativity added to the mix.
The controls are impressive about Fritz Chess. You use the Wii Remote to select pawns and moving them around is a bit on the standard side but is still refreshing from all of the pointless button mashing in several games. See, the controls have a point here in a good game of chess.
Fritz Chess only brings slightly new things to one of the most beloved board games in history, so don't buy it, but there still is a unique edge to it. Probably worth a rental.
