if you like shooting or squad tactics games (or better yet, BOTH) freedom fighters is for you. i was attracted by the tactics side, but was pleasantly surprised by the excellent third-person shooting. if the game had been available for sale i probably would have kept it.
pros: excellent musical score. good story line with excellent cut-scenes. once you get used to the control scheme it's pretty tight and certainly gets the job done. i like the blend of stealth and combat. stealth takes a back seat to action, but is still required to progress through some parts of the game, and is wise in most situations. also, there's a certain amount of realism in that you can't walk around hauling a shotgun, rifle, and rocket launcher all at once and still fight. you get one handgun slot and one long gun slot, which adds another tactical element since you have to chose the right tool for the job. (of course you can still carry 10 molotovs and 10 grenades, which seems like a little much. "excuse me mr. russian sir, but could you hold still a minute while i set down this crate of explosives down and draw my weapon?"...)
cons: the controls felt a little sloppy at first, but i later got used to them. game is fairly long, but could be longer. friendly AI is better than most gamecube era AI, but still leaves something to be desired. when i tell a soldier to defend a machine gun nest, i expect him to use the machine gun, not just stand next to it (which they do about half the time). squad control is functional but could be better. voice acting is so-so.
overall, a very impressive game that i would recommend to just about any gamecube or wii owner.
