Really Bad

UGH... what happened?

When I read the description of this game, I thought it looked pretty cool. An island where time repeats itself in a never ending circle, and you're the one who has to figure out how to stop it. Cool, right?

Um... no. The game began with a crazy long intro that made no sense, followed by and even longer cutscene of the main character driving. I was bored before I even started playing. (Seriously, it was like 5min. of him just driving his stupid car down the highway. Oh wait, he got out once to go to the bathroom. That broke it up a bit.)

I try to be fair in my ratings... this is the lowest game rating I have ever given. Honestly, the graphics were choppy, the voice acting was like the Sims put through a grinder. The directions were less than adequate. I only played for maybe an hour or two but I often found myself saying, "So when all is said and done, what the heck am I supposed to do?"

Also, if you accidentally select a person you already had a long conversation with, they make you sit through the whole thing ALL OVER AGAIN. You can't skip it!

The only reason I didn't give this game a 1 is because I believe the storyline has huge potential. It's a very cool idea, just terribly executed. Too bad...

So if you want to give it a try, go ahead. I wouldn't advise it, but I'm just one person. Have fun, my fellow gamers!

From the same people who brought you Killer 7 and No More Heroes, this game is very similar in style and humor, but not in game play. Flower, Sun, and Rain can be best described as a 'point & click' adventure, with puzzles that must be solved to advance.

When I say this game isn't for everyone, I mean that this is a very hard game to play, as in the game almost wants you to stop playing it, as in most of the puzzles involve reading comprehension, repetition and basic math skills. IGN even said that you have to be masochistic to play this game, and I actually have to agree, but if you go into this game expecting to be challenged mentally then within lies one of the most interesting games I have ever played. The story is funny and confounding, and it was hard to put this game down.

You should also know this game is a port from what I believe was the original PSX release, but with touch screen add-on and an updated HUB and save features, so the graphics are dated, but done in a stylized way, so they are still interesting to look at.

Basically what I'm telling you is that if you love Japanese story telling and want to be challenged mentally (and almost physically) than definitely rent this game, you won't regret it.

Good

Niche game, but a good one.

Let me state something now. If you aren't familiar with Suda51's other works (Killer7 and No More Heroes), or didn't like them, You probably will be turned off from the game at first. Give it time, it grows on you. Also, yes, this is a puzzle game. You need to think.

Gameplay is incredibly linear. You move from point A to point B, and solve a puzzle, done by entering numbers into a system in the game.
The answers are found usually by reading an in-game guidebook you have access to anytime. The answer's aren't always obvious though. You are going to need a brain to figure out some of them. Or Google.
There is no other variety in the gameplay.

I feel that the story and writing makes up for it though, if you're a fan of quirky mysteries, or Suda games, then you'll likely be enthralled enough to keep going. It's without a doubt the game's highest point.

Graphically, yes, the game is not very strong. The characters are all fairly blocky and polygonal, and move as you'd expect. The art direction, as much as you can put forward on a DS game though, is stylized and very Suda-like, and enjoyable enough. I honestly didn't mind it at all. But if you're the kind to get in a fit over graphics, avoid this.
The music and audio quality is generally average to good. The voices are distorted ala Killer7, which people who haven't played that probably aren't going to like, but you can read just fine.

Replayability is Nil, other than to solve a few puzzles, and unlock costumes.

Reviewer Commentary:
The one complaining about getting stuck at the beginning does make a point. The game tells you to turn to the game's manual, but we don't have that. But if you're on here, you have google, come on. The answer by the way, is YOUR birthday, that you put into the DS system.

As for the one complaining about getting puzzled... It's a puzzle game. What did you expect? It's not even that difficult. The game gives you the answers in the guidebook, you just have to find them
