Let me get this straight, if you have a 3DS, buy this game. There is absolutely no excuse, I promise you will find something to love in this game, whether its the awesome anime look, the riveting story, the perfectly composed music, the strategy, the RPG elements, or the relationship system.
Let's start with the looks. The game's art style is an anime sort of look in the characters. The environments are great in the grid-like battlefields or the one on one fight cutscenes. The story cutscenes are so good, they will dazzle you the first couple times. It has a cel shaded-ish look to make it look like a hand drawn anime.
Now the story has a fairly generic start-up (your character has amnesia), but it really picks up and creates a twist or two that you won't see coming, hopefully. Each character has their own personality, some will be outgoing and others will be all solemn and brooding. You'll fall in love with the majority of them.
The music may be my favorite part of the presentation, because the soundtrack is so versatile in mood. There's happy, naive feeling tracks and sad, but epic pieces that will make you feel in the game. It fits so well, its boggling.
The way the battles work, is your basic Strategy RPG sort of layout. Their's a grid and you move troops to enemies to attack. However, the way Fire emblem does it, is like throwing "Rock, Paper, Scissors" and chess elements. See, swords > axes, while axes > lances, finally lances > swords. This gives the soldier with the better type a damage boost of sorts. While the strategy is nice, there is also RPG-like systems like leveling up and weapon equipment. These can improve stats, and make you get attached to your soldiers after training them.
Not only will you be attached to your hard working soldiers, but also their spouses and children, if you choose to give them those. Simply, when two units fight by each others, they grow relationships and can get married and grow kids.
This game is worth a buy, its perfe
