Not as good as I hoped

First review, so hopefully someone finds this helpful.
I am an avid Final Fantasy enthusiast, so I will play just about anything that has the Final Fantasy text written on it. I was excited about Revenant Wings because it was a spin off of a the original Final Fantasy XII that I loved. I was hoping for a bit of nostalgia, what I obtained was boredom.
The story just never seemed to pick up any speed, which was compounded by the even slower combat system. The combat seemed like an odd combination of Final Fantasy Tactics and The Last Remnant, with a Final Fantasy XII twist.
The graphics in-game were as decent as they come for the DS, and the cutscenes were, as always with Final Fantasy, beautiful.
Maybe I just didn't give this game a fighting chance, or maybe I am not a patient enough gamer, but after the first ten minutes of the boring battle system and just as boring, if not more so, storyline, I was ready to send this game back. I would, however, recommend this game to any Final Fantasy lovers, it seems that others that have played this enjoyed it. Definitely a rental.
